The regime
How compounds are classified in Slovakia
| Governing law and regulator | Medicines in Slovakia are regulated under the Act on Medicines and Medical Devices (zakon c. 362/2011 Z.z.) and related decrees, enforced by SUKL (Statny ustav pre kontrolu lieciv), the State Institute for Drug Control, which licenses manufacture, wholesale distribution, pharmacy dispensing and internet sale of medicines. |
|---|---|
| Peptides named directly | In a July 2025 press release on INTERPOL's Pangea XVII operation, SUKL explicitly named BPC-157, ipamorelin and melanotan among peptide supplements marketed for appearance or performance, stating they are unregistered and potentially dangerous in Slovakia regardless of how they are marketed. |
| GLP-1 class | SUKL warned in 2025 that semaglutide-containing counterfeit medicines are being sold through illegal online channels and abused outside their approved diabetes indication for weight loss, and that such products may contain dangerous adulterants rather than the declared active substance. |
| Prescription-only compounds and internet sale | SUKL's registered-medicine database lists somatropin products as prescription-only with restricted prescribing rights. SUKL has separately warned since at least 2018 that only registered over-the-counter medicines may lawfully be sold over the internet in Slovakia, and only by pharmacies on its published list. |
| Enforcement posture | SUKL took part in INTERPOL's Pangea XVII operation in 2025, a global action across more than 90 countries that seized over 50 million doses of illegal medicines worth USD 65 million. SUKL's own July 2025 release ties peptide supplements and semaglutide counterfeits directly to this operation. |

Your obligations
What a buyer in Slovakia needs settled
- Hold a povolenie na velkodistribuciu humannych liekov (wholesale distribution authorisation) issued by SUKL before importing or reselling any registered medicine.
- Assume peptides such as BPC-157, TB-500, ipamorelin, melanotan and similar research compounds are treated by SUKL as unregistered and potentially dangerous, not as a separate research-chemical category exempt from medicines law.
- Do not sell GLP-1 class compounds (semaglutide, tirzepatide, etc.) or growth hormone and gonadotropin products outside the licensed pharmacy and prescription channel.
- Expect SUKL enforcement cooperation with INTERPOL-style operations; keep supply chains documented and traceable given the agency's active seizure posture.
We will ask about this at enquiry. We check the authorisations your activity requires before quoting, and we confirm the position per compound rather than for the market as a whole.

Questions
Supplying into Slovakia
Do you supply into Slovakia?
We supply businesses that hold the authorisations their activity requires. Whether a specific compound can be supplied into Slovakia depends on that compound and on your authorisations, and we confirm it per compound at the enquiry stage.
Who carries the compliance obligation?
The importer of record and the party placing the product on the market, which is the buyer. We supply the batch documentation that supports your file. We cannot hold your authorisations for you.
How current is this page?
It was reviewed on 2026-08-20 and is scheduled for review again on 2026-11-18. Every source is dated and linked, so you can check the original.
We already supply into Slovakia. What changes if we source from you?
The batch documentation. You receive a Certificate of Analysis per batch, which can be issued under your own brand. The import and market-placing responsibilities stay where they are.
Is this legal advice?
No. It is a summary of the regulatory positions those authorities have published, as at the review date above. Take advice in your own market before you rely on it.
